Select one of your tapes and cd's at random. Choose a track and listen to a minute of the music. Try to describe the elements in the music - rhythm, melody etc. Remember to keep repeating the music.
Listen to a wide range of music - do not forget about the music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic period etc. It is often hard to decide on the period in history the music comes from.
Revise basic theory - key signatures, time signatures, note values, cadences etc. Click HERE for the theory section in the bitesize website.
Be aware of the study areas and the relevant key words.
Be aware of the range of questions on the exam paper:

  • multiple choice (never leave these questions blank!)
  • Short answers / phrases (be brief but clear)
  • Following a musical score (you will need to know basic music theory for this question)
  • Writing paragraphs on music (refer to line numbers if it's a song, describe what you hear and comment on melody, rhythm, tempo etc, write in bullet points and not full sentences)
